Adding a filter narrows down your document list to only display log lines that contain a particular value from the chosen field.
You can add a filter from:
- Field List
- Document Table
Filters simplify things and can be created with a click of a button. They are useful when you share Visualizations and Dashboards with non-technical people who may be confused by unnecessary data and we will be covering this feature more in depth next.

In the Field List, you are able to create Positive and Negative filters, plus the Document Table also enables you to filter on whether or not a field Exists.
Important: Filters will only work if your log message has been parsed or sending your logs in JSON format.
